Who is BENCO Products?
A plucky little company determined to do things the right way.
When you ask us what BENCO Products does, don’t be surprised if it takes us a minute to answer. We do A LOT of very different stuff. It can take a minute to figure out how to best answer the question in a single sentence. Here’s a quick break down of the high points.
- BENCO Wiring makes cables and harnesses for the agricultural market and several OEMs. BENCO Products started by making affordable adapter cables for agricultural components back in 2006 and quickly expanded to a wide range of agricultural cables. We are also the go-to wiring harness provider for several regional manufacturers’ products.
- BENCO Products is our retail side. It focuses on liquid handling products for agriculture. Primarily for planters and sprayers, but we can help with almost anything dealing with liquid.
- BENCO Manufacturing makes all sorts of metal products like tank stands, brackets, skids & anything else we need to work on planters and sprayers. This division also fabricates custom roadside spray trucks and anti-icing solutions for municipalities and industry.
- BENCO Manufacturing also makes a range of electronics for liquid handling. The best example being BENCO’s line of Motor Controls, which are easily the best and most reliable in the industry, even after over a decade on the market.
- BENCO Sprayers focuses on making smaller sprayers that perform as well as the big field sprayers do, just in a smaller package.
- OnSite FMS is another division that produces a very simple and accurate flow monitoring system (FMS) to measure real-time liquid application rates on each individual row of your planter or strip till machine. OnSite’s software interprets the data and displays each row’s performance on a easy-to-understand monitor in your cab.
- Our sister company, Dakota Products, makes air fresheners, odor neutralizers, and enzymatic cleaning products, which keeps the shop smelling fresh.
So we do a lot of stuff that may not look related to the casual observer. However, when you get to know the company, things start to make sense. Perhaps the best way to understand the company is to talk about the way we develop products rather than the products themselves.
These five rules represent the philosophy Jason, our owner, company president, and chief product designer. These five rules define our company, unite our varied portfolio of products and drive our decisions in day-to-day operations. You won’t see these rules spelled out on a poster in the break room. They are embedded on a much deeper level and are woven into the fabric of everything we do.
- Listen to your customers and solve their problems. If solutions don’t exist, invent one.
Our customers have all kinds of problems. Some are are simple and obvious. Some require a little ingenuity. Yet others require us to invent technology and launch a whole new line of products. In the end, everything we make is a solution to our customers’ problems. - Solutions have to work in the real world. It has to be functional, not fancy.
The market is flooded with fancy stuff that doesn’t really work or is too complicated to operate. Keep it simple. Make it effective. Don’t worry about fads, trends, or what the big guys are doing. Products that actually work will always have a market. - Only build products that you would buy with your own money.
We don’t build cheap crap. We engineer real solutions that are designed with the customer in mind. If you can solve people’s problems and make their lives easier at the same time, you’ve engineered a good product. Adding a few extra fittings doesn’t add much to the cost, but can add an enormous amount of value for your customer. - Build things to last. Stand behind your work.
Everything is expensive these days. Add value for your customers by making sure your product will stand up over time. If your products don’t break, you may not get as many repeat purchases, but you’ll get a lot less warranty calls and a lot more more referrals. That seems like a better business model. - Don’t give up until you’ve achieved the first four rules.
Stubbornness can be a virtue. Our best products are the result of a good idea that turned into a great idea through testing, testing & more testing.
OnSite FMS is a perfect example. It took four years of testing and countless all-nighters before we had a simple and reliable solution for monitoring liquid on each row of a planter at an affordable price point. OnSite FMS is the best liquid monitoring system in the industry because we kept developing it until it was exactly that, the best in the industry.
It’s simple. It’s reliable. It works every time. It’s the perfect BENCO Product.
